Good Morning, Everyone!!! Today I thought I'd share a little grouping of fabric postcards I've created in sepia tones for a MAMA swap...

The base for my postcards is a fabulously tattered, vintage handkerchief decorated with mother-of-pearl buttons, pearl and seed beading.

The back is a scan of a vintage postcard.

Gosh, I LOVE sepia!!! I just bought some new Copics in sepia tones so be watching for a bit of SEPIA LOVE in future cards :-)

Here's a teeny tiny book covered in it!!!

I created this domino mini book for a swap with a fellow Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group artisan.

This particular glitter is German Glass Glitter and will tarnish over time to a beautiful darkened patina.

This tiny book currently on it's way to the UK and a brand new home with Dawn. I hope you love it as much as I've enjoyed creating it for you, Dawn!!!

Ohmygoodness!!! I got the BEST news! I'm so super excited and completely honored to have been asked to be a Guest Designer on Saturated Canary's Design Team for the next THREE MONTHS!!! It's just too much! And WAY too sweet :-)

So, in honor of my new gig, I thought I'd whip up a little card to celebrate!

Follow The Yellow-Brick Road!

Have you ever played with paper dolls? You, know---those cool ones with magnetic backs or cling-form on those little storyboards??? Man, I miss those!!!

I loved them as "Little Mary", so when I found myself feeling a bit nostalgic this week, I got my craft on and made me some!!!

It all started with a trip to OZ...
***imagine wavy lines fading into a dream sequence***

I think this version of 'The Emerald City' feels a bit edgy and urban, don't ya think? It's my first try at graffiti-FAB!!! The castle was cut from an Accucut castle die. The paper? That's a bit of everything on random green/yellow scrapbook paper ;-)

The dolls and castle pieces have hidden magnets which allow them to stick!

I LOVE my new toy! In addition to some good 'ol fashioned "playtime", this project would go far to dress up a boring, magnetic board...or make an AWEMSOME card! I'm always looking for new ways to rock a birthday card!!!

THIS PROJECT WAS CREATED WITH IMAGES FROM SATURATED CANARY AND PAIGE APPROVED.

"OZ" Fest!!!

Hello! Ever created a clean and simple project? Weeeeelllll, I set out to create one inspired by Saturated Canary's Challenge #8 - Clean And Simple. I think it came out super clean --- but as for simple??? Depends on what you mean by "simple".

Ok, on with the show!!!

Here's a cute little storybook flip-card created with several of Saturated Canary's newly released, OZ-inspired images...

I colored the heck out of 6 (Yep. SIX!) images to create this cute little book! And I did it to make the day of one very adorable little girl on her birthday :-)

You see, last year, I created a handmade card for said "little girl" on her birthday. Her momma later told me that she would carry the card around with her because she enjoyed it so much. It was at that moment, that I decided to make her something a little more "worthy" of lugging around with her!

I printed the images in a 5 inch size---adding a few of my favorite quotes from the "Oz-ites", colored them up, stitched around the edges, and bound them into a little book for her to flip through! I hope she loves it as much as I've loved creating it for her :-)

Poursuivre. To chase; to pursue.

At the beginning of a new year, we all think about goals we'd like to meet. Dreams to chase. Ideas to pursue. So I made a book to capture mine...

I was inspired to create this Bling!-i-fied journal by Some Odd Girl's latest challenge. They asked us to create an item full of Bling! And awesome. So I set off to get my ba-ba-ba-BLING! ON!!!

I started by stitching up a rustic little book cover, and then gathered some of my favorite things to pile on top.

Bling! included but not limited to:

*glass glittered monogram
*splattered mist
*mother-of-pearl buttons
*glass buttons
*flat-back pearls
*wired glass pearl beads

The inside pages are just a bunch of ephemera bound into the book with a bit of embroidery floss.

I had to add a little pocket to hold some of my favorite stamped images ;-) I hope to fill this little journal with my favorite coloring combo's, ideas, pictures and all things inspiring!

{A Winter Flight}

Hello, Everyone!

Today, I thought I'd share a winter project I've whipped up to help me transition from Christmas to the completely empty house that's always left behind when we put our holiday decorations away ;-) So sad!!!

I got my inspiration from taking a peek at Saturated Canary's latest challenge over on the challenge blog. We were asked to create something for a Christmas/Winter theme.

Now, as I just mentioned, I am in full-on, clean-up mode---packing away all Christmas gear. It made me sad to think I was gonna create something "Christmas-ey", only to have to wait until next year to display it---soooooo, I went WINTER! Winter's here for a bit longer here in Arizona...at least a week more, I think!

I started by coloring up Krista's A Winter Ragamuffin...

And then I sent her on a fun little hot air balloon ride!

I even gave her a little bit of fur to keep her warm! Her ear muffs, collar and boots are sportin' some serious flocking ;-)

Silver glass glitter stars...

...and snowflakes cut from vintage sheet music add a bit of whimsy.

And the best part??? It GLOWS. Yep, glows. LOVE!!!

Hopefully, hanging this project over my desk will help me remember the 'frigid' 80 degree winter nights here in Arizona when our summer hits 115!!!

MY Kind Of Candy!!!

Happy New Year!!! (I kinda feel like Frosty sayin' that. *Wink*.) I hope your Christmas and New Year were as wonderful and restful as mine were.

I'm super excited for this new year! I love the fresh feel January brings---not to mention my birthday month. Yep, I said month. I like to milk it for all it's worth and load up on all the sweetness and giftys while I can ;-)

Soooooo, in honor of my birthday month, I thought I'd make myself a little candy. Pretty, sparkly, wearable candy!

I took my inspiration from the most recent SOG challenge. The gals over at Some Odd Girl posted this pic on the blog and set us out to create whatever the photo inspired. Immediately I saw the hearts and the book, and you know what I think when I see book pages???

JEWELRY!!! (((No offense to all you hard-core book lovers out there! You'll be happy to know that this book died of natural causes. It fell apart from being used until it just couldn't hold itself together anymore.)))

I took some of their FAB digi images and shrunk them WAAAAAAAAYYYY down, printed them onto kraft cardstock and colored them up with my Copics to create some cute 'lil charms. The resulting charm is only about one inch in size!!! SUPER cute and just the right size for a charm bracelet.

There's a boy, a girl and tons of sweets!!! I love that they kinda look like me and my Sweety!

On the reverse side of the charms is my answer to conversation hearts.

You'll notice that the words are created from teeny tiny woodgrain alphas!!! I got that sweet little set in my prize loot from their Holiday Hop :-) LOVE!!! Thanks girls!!!

Santa Is Comin' 2 Town!

Did you know Santa makes house calls? Well, I guess that is the basis of his whole organization ;-) That being the case, I thought he might like his cookies "on-the-go". Here's a tag I've created for just that reason! (Check out my "boys" tags HERE!)

My hubby is the official "Santa" for the 2011 season. He's been super busy shopping like crazy and making sure everything is just so. Even with all his "Santa-ness", he's decided NOT to press his luck and dress up for an impromptu visit this year. The last visit almost ended his career as "Santa" altogether...

Paige (at age 3): "Santa, my daddy has glasses like that."**LOOKS AT SANTA SUSPICIOUSLY**
Santa: "Ho, ho, ho---lots of people have the same glasses!"
Paige (at age 3): "Those look like my Daddy's shoes."
Santa: "Why don't you tell me what you want for Christmas!!!"**SWEATING BULLETS**

It's a good thing Paige wasn't around for this shot, or Mommy could have been the next one on the chopping block!

Here are the cookies all wrapped up and ready for flight. (Ya gotta keep your teenage sons out of them somehow!!!)

And look at those yummy cookies! I think Paige could possibly decorate the prettiest sugar cookie anywhere!!! I'm sure "Santa" will enjoy them :-)

For The Boys!

I have to say my boys are super competitive. And when I say competitive, I mean every little thing is an all out WAR!!!

Example...

Each year as we are just finishing decorating our Christmas tree, it starts. THE competition to see who hangs the LAST ornament! Each of them "pocket" a few and keep an eye on the other to see when brother's hands are finally empty.

{Warm Holiday Wishes!}

Helllllooooo! Yep. A Two-fer. That's 2 posts in one day :-)

I can't help it!!! Some Odd Girl is hosting it's 2nd Annual Customer Holiday Hop, and I just gotta play along!

Here's a "white-out" card I've made for the occasion. The cutest penguin image with a little "white snowflake die-cut on white cardstock" action.

Their "Chilly Penquin" is positively the cutest penquin I've seen all year!!! Although, I do live in the desert, so he's also the ONLY penquin I've seen all year. ANYWAY, I LOVE him! Wait---did I just say I love a bird??? LOL! (See THIS post for more on my aversion to our feathery foe!!!)

A little crazy stitching, faux snow and some Stickles later and you've got a card ready for mailing---'cuz honestly, what is Christmas without Stickles???

A Little Gifty For Teacher :-)

I thought I'd share the little teacher's gift Paige and I whipped up!

Paige's first grade class is currently in full-on reindeer mode, so the Deer Mae with Pressies digi image was perfect for this gift (You can grab her HERE, in Some Odd Girl's shop!).

We filled the pail with some chocolate-peanut butter truffles. YUMM-O!!!

{Snowy Owl} --- A Primitive Ornament

Hello there!! Whooooooo wants a tutorial??? Ok, cheesy---I know. I just can't help it!

So, I have to confess...I think birds are kinda creepy. Have you SEEN one UP CLOSE??? *shivers*

In spite of my aversion to our feathery foe, I have to say I do like owls :-) It's a funny story. It all happened this last year...

"My children's school was infested by a family of Burrowing (I think!) Owls. They are super cute, fuzzy, tiny and MEAN!!! They don't care how big you are---they'll eat you. One bite at a time. This family of owls terrorized the school yard all year. They would dive-bomb the teachers, hiss at the children and generally cause mayhem all around them. The school tried to have them humanely removed, but nobody would come and get them. So the chaos continued...
Over the summer, I would catch little glimpses of these birds as I would drive by the school. On a light, on the fence, in the road... YES! In. The. Road. As I was driving by one day, I saw one on the side of the road. I slowed down and thought about stopping to help, but when it saw me, it went into full on battle mode. Wings spread, teeth bared (or maybe that part was my imagination!)---ready to eat the car!!! I sat there laughing my butt off. He wasn't scared at all! He was just out on a little walkabout.
Apparently, his family had moved into the small, grassy yard next to the Kindergarten building. This is prime real estate! Fenced in and grassy with plenty of shade trees. Every day, as I would drive by, I would see them. There were three babies and two larger owls. I even named the babies---hee-hee! Jack, Evil Eyes and Mothra. Don't ask!!!
All summer long, I would obsessively look for these owls. I loved my daily glimpses of them! Then one day, just as school was about to start, the lawn care men came and cleaned house.
The owls were gone."

Here's a picture I snapped during parent/teacher conference week. I had to hide under a tree to get that close!!! SOOOO scary! All 6-8 inches of him.

My newfound love of owls led me to buy several owl figurines...AND create this FAB primitive owl ornie tutorial! Check it out!!!

One final note, my son came home from school the other day with a report of an owl siting at his school. They're BAAAAAACCCCCK! Yay!!!

Handmade Ornaments a la Marie!!!

Today, I have the final installment of my ornament swapping for this year!!! So excited---although, it will be a bit sad not to be expecting any pretties in the mail...*sigh*

AWWWW, well! On to the ornaments! I was teamed up with a fellow artisan from my Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group and asked to create a set of three ornaments for one another.

Ornament #1

This pretty cross ornament was my first attempt at using colored glass. I think it's varied shades of pink will be DIVINE hanging on a tree with twinkly lights! This design came from my love of vintage rosaries.

Ornament #2

This shabby heart is one of my FAVORITES from this year! I just love the doily and aged mother-of-pearl buttons. The opposite side is a mirror image of the front.

Ornament #3

My final ornament is a simple soldered Marie. You can barely see the faint "Paris" stamping along the ribbon.

My partner for this swap was Tabitha of Creative Wings Boutique.

{Alice & Friends} --- A Ragdoll Tutorial

Hello, Everyone! Today, I have an "InSpiReD" tutorial for you!!!

The idea came to me while I was trying to figure out what to do for Saturated Canary's Challenge #5. This challenge is AnyThinG GoeS!!! Just create what inspires you. What inspires me right now??? Well, Christmas presents, of course!!! To be specific, my baby girl's Christmas presents :-)

I've always had the best time shopping for her. I have 3 children, and when she came along after 2 boys, I was SOOOOOO ready to buy girly things...and DO girly things...and HAVE girly things around...

Every year, in addition to the plethora of things I buy for my girl, I love spending some time creating a handmade gift for her. This year, when I was coloring up some of our FAVORITE images from Saturated Canary's Digi Shop, Paige practically swooned with excitement!!! She just loves Alice and her Wonderland Friends! I knew right then what I had to do :-)

I started my adventure down the rabbit hole... to make her some friends to keep with her...to have tea parties with...to share her own adventures with...friends that are a little more sturdy than the paper images we love to color together.

MY TUTORIAL...

Color up some of your favorite images. I got mine from Saturated Canary's Digi Shop (link is above.)

Scan your images into your computer and print them onto some Inkjet Fabric Sheets. I usually like to adjust the hue saturation in my photo editing software, to keep the image nice and bright, as these images tend to print a bit washed out.

Trim around your image, leaving a nice big boarder. Then use your cut out image as a template to cut two more copies out of a sturdy fabric. I've used a pair of old jeans that my boys have outgrown, but are a bit to "well-loved" to donate to my local thrift store.

Stack your fabric pieces...

...and pin them together.

Sew around the edge of your dolly, leaving an inch or two open for stuffing. I've used a zigzag stitch.

I've gotten right up to the edge of my fabric!

Stuff with Poly-fil to the firmness you like.

Remember, stuff in little bits! You'll end up with a smoother look and a softer dolly :-) You can use a chopstick to reach those tight corners if your fingers won't do the trick!

Sew the opening closed. I've gone around my dolly with a total of three rounds of stitching. I like the look of a messy edge and the added strenght this provides.

Now, trim up any loose threads or excess fabric.

I've used my finger to fray my edges---again, I love the messy, well-loved look!!!

And now, you have some new friends, ready for an impromptu tea party!!! ENJOY!

These dollies make me smile, so I've decided to add to Paige's collection! Stay tuned for the Queen Of Hearts and The Mad Hattress!!!

Recently, Krista of Saturated Canary posted about using "regular" stamps and turning them into "Christmas" ones. Can I just tell you that I LOVE this idea! I'm all for getting more from my supplies.

I recently joined a Handmade Ornament Swap hosted by Cassandra at An Artful Adventure.

As you know, I'm a serious fan of the handmade ornament. I love to make them, and I LOVE to get them!!! So today, I thought I'd share what I made for my swap partners and my FABULOUS returns :-)

Mini Paper Clay Birds...

I used some of my favorite vintage buttons to adorn their little bow ties.

Classic Soldered Glass Ovals...

I recently posted some pictures of prints I'd created using pretty vintage papers. Well, here's one of the projects I've used them in.

Ragdoll Angels...

Vintage applique doilies, mother-of-pearl buttons, and tea-dyed quilt swatches! I've also used a mold of my favorite frozen dolly to make their sweet, little faces :-)

And finally, bleached-bottle brush Christmas Trees!!! When I saw Terri's tutorial on bleaching and coloring your own, I just had to give it a try! I love the bright colors---TOTAL Holiday LOVE!!!

Handmade Ornament Swap

I've always made handmade ornaments for our family Christmas tree with my mom. Here's a picture of our tree.

I LOVED that shiny, tinsel tree!!! I still have it. Maybe I should put it up this year...

I've happily continued that tradition with my babies. "Babies", of course is a relative term, as they are now 14, 12 and 6! Each year as we unpack our ornaments to decorate our tree, we spend time talking about the years we made each one. Each of them has their favorites, and with boys, hanging ornaments sometimes comes close to a wrestling match!!!

All things considered, I think my crazy and eclectic tree, filled with handmade ornaments from years gone by, is the most beautiful thing! It's everything I hope my "baby's" childhood should be...

SHINY and filled with MEMORIES.

I gotta say that I'm a fan of my sewing machine :-)

So, when Saturated Canary Challenge Blog's second EVER challenge was to stitch up your project, I can't say that I was disappointed!

Challenge #2 is open until Wednesday, October 26 @ 12:00am EST.

Here's my take...

For my card, I've used the gorgeous Ragamuffin Violet. Which, by the way, I WON in the FIRST EVER challenge...just sayin'...I love when my stars are lucky!!!

I wanted the overall look and feel of an old photo, so I've colored her up in mostly black and white with just a bit of pink. I just love the pink!!!

I've layered vintage dictionary pages, sewing tissue and torn bits of white tulle on top of kraft and black cardstock for the base and finished it off with a bit of black stitching. I really like the contrast of the black stitching on the white paper :-)

And the cute little flower? Yep. I hand-stitched those beads on there. It is a stitching challenge, after all!!!

A Bit Of A Challenge...

I've recently fallen in LOVE! I found a new digi store and I LOOOOVVVEEE everything!!! It's called Saturated Canary Digi's and is the brainchild of one Krista Smith.

Said shop has recently started a challenge blog and I'm SO playing along!!! Challenge One is open until Wednesday, October 12 @ 12:00am EST.

When I saw "Vampire Rose", I couldn't resist the optional "Halloween Theme" clause in the challenge. She's super sweet with a BITE!

I've added some hand-dyed seam binding in a blood red. What's a vampy card without a splash of red??? Oh! And some glitter bats. Ya gotta have bats!!!

And, once again, I've flexed my Copic muscle with some more black and white coloring. Gotta exercise to beef up my skills!!! Practice, practice, PRACTICE!!!

{CELEBRATE}

What's the best way to celebrate October 1st, otherwise known as World Cardmaking Day??? Why, with a card, of course!!!

I host a local group of ladies in a quarterly card swap, and tonight's the night! Imagine my surprise, when I found out that today is World Cardmaking Day!!! Boy, oh boy...It's kismet :-)

I have it bad for polka dots. In fact, the only thing better than dots, is black and white dots! So, after finding this paper in my stash, I knew I wanted to go black and white.

I've also been stalking quite a few different banner stamps for awhile now. I say stalking, because it's been a bit of an obsession! I finally decided to go for the Hero Arts "Friendly Flags" set. Oh, man does this stamp set make me happy!!! ***LE SIGH***

And what's a card without stitching??? Lots of stitching. Lots of messy, fun stitching!

I finally pulled out my Cool Gray Copics and got to coloring! It's my first attempt at a black and white image and I'm pretty ok with it :-)

Boîte D'Allumettes Swap

I recently had the pleasure of participating in another matchbox swap---this time, with my Marie Antoinette group!

We were charged with creating a French-inspired box for our partner, and when I found this lovely Marie image in a beautiful aqua gown, I just had to include her!

She was printed on cotton fabric and stitched to the cover with a few aqua flowers and some sparkly crystals. I just love the texture the netting gives to the base of the box!

I just love the light and dark shading on the French book pages I've used on this box! I loved it so much that I've left some areas without print just so there would be more of that color :-)

Hi, Everyone!!! I'm super excited!!! Tomorrow is the first day of an online soldering workshop I've signed up for taught by Sally Jean! CAN-NOT WAIT!!!

In honor of said workshop, I've decided to share a wee little bracelet I've created as a little gifty for a special someone...

This rustic charm features pretty lace, vintage music sheets and a few sparkly rhinestones from a broken bracelet. I just love finding damaged jewelery to repurpose!

Altered Matchbox

Hello, Everyone!

I recently participated in a wonderful altered matchbox swap hosted by Laura from Decor To Adore. The idea was to alter a matchbox and then fill it to the brim with fun little items to create with or just to "oooh and ahhhh" over :-) You'd be amazed at how many little things one can stuff into a matchbox!

I wanted to create something soft and beautiful that absolutely screams SPRING!---but when I saw this black and white flocked paper in my stash, I just had to use it. A little yellow ink and a soft blue ribbon softened it up a bit.

I found this lovely image of a tiny artist on The Graphics Fairy and fell in love!!! She so reminds me of my daughter :-) Maybe not in looks, but her artistic spirit definately shines through...Of course, it didn't hurt that this image is exactly the shade of blue I was looking for!

Since I never do anything the easy way, I decided to create a custom box with the dimensions of a larger matchbox from chipboard, and then decoupage it with some vintage, French bookpages. The end result was a little box that's truly as hard as a rock!!! Perfect for shipping!

Art Under Glass...

Hello, Everyone!!!

I finally have a day off! Woo-hoo!!! Imagine that :-)

Normally, a day off would mean sleeping in, lounging in my PJ's and possibly some errands---but, for me...today...It means I can FINALLY finish a project I've been working on for FOR-EV-ER!!! Oh, and blog about it, of course.

Lately, I've been obsessed with soldering. I just love it! Cannot get enough. So, in addition to the MANY jewelery pieces I have been playing with, I decided to create a larger piece to adorn the wall. Walls need to feel pretty, too. LOL!

Without further ado...

Marie's Tissu Che'rit Le Journal

Lately, I find myself drawn to fabric :) It's soft and forgiving and I just cannot get enough! That's why I just couldn't resist a swap of items to make a beautiful fabric journal with my Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group...

My partner, Lisa, sent me this lovely kit to work with. I absolutely LOVE the aqua tone of the kit! When I see this color I dream of the ocean and shells and all things "Florida" and growing up there. Of moss hanging from trees. Of grass and blue skies.

Here's my finished journal...

I decided to use the same image of Marie throughout the journal, just cropped in various ways. I believe the same photo can mean so many different things. A close crop gives focus to the face and a small peak into a person's thoughts. A wide crop gives detail of surroundings and a completely different view of a person's life in that moment. I thought it would be fun to play and see if I could evoke a differnt side of Marie using just one photo.

Marie will forever be associated with France. I knew I wanted to include a page that would showcase this.

I think this is my favorite page :) I got an AMAZING tip from my friend, Holly. If you turn a fabric with a strong pattern over, you get a soft one instead. You can see the faint, fleur de lis pattern on the fabric just peeking through. And this vintage hankie! So pretty :)

Marie was a girl in a gilded cage. Lots of pretty things to play with but still a slave to her station in life. How does one keep from being bored while living in a gilded cage???

For my final page, I've created a small stuffed pillow. I needed a place to showcase this lovely vintage glove :) It calls to my mind images of carriages and crowns and all things Queen Marie.

A Little Peek

Hello, hello! How I've missed my bloggy friends! So much has happened since we've last had the opportunity to chat :)

First, and MOST importantly, my beautiful baby girl is officially "Soaring Eagle"!!! She has been chosen by her Kindergarten teacher as the "MVP" of her class for this quarter, so to speak. A sample of her work was sent home and my girl IS A GENIUS!!! Of course, I'm entirely un-biased...

Here's a little candid shot from the day---and yes, those are VERY OLD temporary tattoos on her cheeks. Apparently, it's a crime to remove them...

And I thought I'd give you a little sneak peek into my wonderful world of Marie :)

To The Gala And Home Again...

Hello, All!

I want to share with you a soldered piece I created to gift a fellow MAMA artisan with.

This is one of the perks of being a Valentine Gala Attendee...getting to know amazing people, LITERALLY laughing until you cry, and FABULOUS gifts!

This chain is another of my beloved rosary-style chains...Yes, I'm terribly addicted!!! You will most likely see more in the near future :)

This charm spins on the end of the chain so that you can equally admire both sides as you wear it.

The back is a base of vintage French book pages covered in a creamy lace. The rhinestones are from a broken vintage necklace I rescued and gave new life.

I just love this necklace and I hope Martica does, as well. Drop by her blog and check out some of her lovely projects!!! Amazing work!

Valentine Heart

Hello!!! Can you believe it's February??? Oh, my!!!

In honor of a wonderful *Gala* I'll be attending in a few, short days, I have a project to share with you :)

I recently joined a little contest, hostessed by fellow MAMA artisan-extraordinaire Terri. She provided us with a pattern and no short amount of inspiration, and then set us on our way!

When I found this beautiful fabric, I knew I had to have it!!! It was a bit bright, so I threw it in a tea bath - which gave it just the right vintage tone :)

My heart is held closed by wrapping some crinkly (tea-dyed, as well!), seam binding around several times and securing with a bow. It reminds me of a delicate slipper.

I kept the heart's outside very simple and only added a few fabric flowers with vintage rhinestone centers.

It hangs from a pearl, pink and silver rosary chain.

For the inside, I knew I wanted to incorporate ruffles. I've left the edges of the ruffles raw to add softness and a rustic feel.

Vintage rhinestones and some hand beading add some sparkle. And, of course, it wouldn't be Marie without a crown!!!

It's A Banner Day At My House Today!

A banner day indeed!!!

As I pack up my Christmas decorations, I thought I'd take a break and share this banner I've created :)

I was inspired to create this pretty banner by Terri from joyfulcompass on Youtube. She has an AMAZING video on a banner she created! You can check it out HERE...

I used vintage music sheets to form the rosettes and also added some torn pieces to the banner as well.

I just LOVE the beautiful detail on this IOD paper, Night Divine!!!

Nothing says Christmas more than the beautiful carol, O Holy Night. This paper was the perfect choice for my first holiday banner :)

I've used some Lindy's Stamp Gang products to color my white seam binding and add TONS of shimmer to this project. I've colored my scalloped circles and even my spools with their sprays!!!

The Case Of The Great Cover-Up...

...or was it "A Great Cover-Up For My Case"?!?!

Let me start at the beginning :) I've been LoViN' my sewing machine lately---I mean, LUH-VIN!!! I think I've stitched every single project I've done for months now. So, I thought I'd share a few of my fave's.

Here's a little peek into the disorganization of my beautiful, "new-to-me" cabinet that my mom refinished for me...

...I promise, there is a point to this little segue :)

It has beaufiful, dark wood but not too much coverage for my mess. I still haven't decided what kind of doors I plan to add, if any. So, in the meantime, I decided it needed a pretty little slipcover...with RuFFleS!!!

I can't get enough of this unbleached, cotton fabric! And this was my first cutom sewing project. I'm so proud!!! ***Please excuse the wrinkles-they're much less noticable in person, lol!***

And here's a cutie I stitched up for my little princess. This plush little friend is actually a back-pack purse :)

Christmas Wreath

Hi, Everyone! I've been creating my fingers to the bone the last couple weeks...

Even though I'm tired (late night and last minute crafty-ness) and my fingers are sore (hot glue gun...ouch!), I have to say that I feel very productive and am now surrounded by such pretty decorations :)

I have many more projects I'd love to finish, but what good is creating all this pretty-ness, without documenting it (am I the only one who likes to look back at my projects from days gone by?) and sharing with my CraFtY FriEnDs???

So, a quick break to share what's been goin' on in my studio...and my kitchen...and my living room...it kinda migrated, lol!

My "Baby" girl and I worked together to create this BEAUTIFUL Christmas Wreath. The base is a couple wreath's I picked up from my local dollar store. I've cut strips of white burlap, unbleached cotton (stamped with music), some netting (tea dyed) and a bit of torn, light blue tulle...

A massive bow...Although I think it could've been even BIGGER ;) ...

And vintage rhinestones to add some **sparkle**.

Hello, hello!!! Are y'all ready for some yummy goodness??? This recipe is perfect for a cozy breakfast on a cold morning :)

Blueberry Scones With Lemon Glaze

Blueberry Scones:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold, cut in chunks
1 cup heavy cream, plus more for brushing the scones
1 cup fresh blueberries

Lemon Glaze:
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 lemon zest, finely grated
1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Directions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Using 2 forks,
cut in the butter to coat the pieces with the flour. The mixture should
look like coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and pour in the heavy
cream. Fold everything together just to incorporate; do not overwork the
dough. Fold the blueberries into the batter. Take care not to mash the
blueberries because their strong color will bleed into the dough.
Press the dough out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about
12 by 3 by 1 1/4 inches. Cut the rectangle in 1/2 then cut the pieces in
1/2 again, giving you 4 (3-inch) squares. Cut the squares in 1/2 on a
Diagonal to give you the classic triangle shape. Place the scones on an
ungreased cookie sheet and brush the tops with a little heavy cream.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until beautiful and brown. Let the scones cool
a bit before you apply the glaze.
Mix the lemon juice and confectioners' sugar together in a microwave
safe bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Add the lemon zest and butter.
Microwave it for 30 seconds on high. Whisk the glaze to smooth out any
lumps, then drizzle the glaze over the top of the scones. Let it set a minute
before serving.

My Hubby just LOVES blueberry!!! Pancakes, muffins, pie, waffles...I mean EVERYTHING blueberry!

I LOVE lemon!!! I think this is a great compromise :) I just don't tell him there's lemon in it, lol...

Now onto the project.

My Time With Tim (aka Mr. Holtz!!!)

Hi, Everyone!!!

I've just returned from a most excellent adventure (San Dimas Shout Out!)! I feel relaxed, and more importantly, creatively rejuvinated. Inspired.

This weekend I was able to take a class taught by Tim Holtz in BEAUTIFUL Payson, Arizona! It was the last chance to take his Artful Curio class and his last teaching engagement for the year.

I went in with NO expectations-NO ideas of what I was going to come home with. I didn't even look at the picture of Tim's finished piece that graced the front of the kit!

This way, I was sure to create something that truly MEANT something to ME!!! A sort of scrapbook of found items.

It took no time at all to lose myself in all the pretty trinkets and baubles. I had the best time adding things to my curio!

So many times we find ourselves bogged down in what we SHOULD do. Gifts to create, scrapbooks to fill, deadlines to make. Sometimes it's necessary to just make something that makes us happy! Something that's created just to fill our need to create.

This one's for me...

Halloween In Wonderland...

Explosion Box!!! Yep, I said it---Halloween. I DO realize Halloween is currently almost a year away...

So, I'm a little slow ;)

I've always loved Halloween projects! I'm envious of people who make AND FILL Halloween mini alubms full of pictures EVERY year!! I've only taken a choice few pictures of my little darlings on Halloween over their entire LIFETIME!

I guess I'm just a candy monster...Can't wait for the photo opp! Gotta get to the candy gettin'!

Here's a little picture of my "Batgirl" impatiently posing for Mommy's pictures. "CAN WE TRICK-OR-TREAT NOW???" I guess I know where she gets it from!!!

So this project fills my SpOoKy AlBuM void. A little display of all my favorite "little monster" pictures from over the years...

The main structure of the box was created from chipboard. I've found the average "paper" construction gets demolished after a year spent packed away (or at least the way my Hubby throws stuff around, lol!).

The top has a spooky black-on-black crackle finish. I love the texture it adds to an otherwise simple lid!

I've created a mini shadow box in the underside of the lid. I think this Alice quote is perfect for a Halloween project---when nothing is EVER as it seems...

DRUMROLL...TA, DA!!! I know...spooky, right?!?!?

The inside sports a mini scene---it's my take on "painting the roses red"! I've put some of my favorite characters in The Queen's Spooky Garden. I just love how these red and white flowers add a pop of color against the black tree.

This BLING-TASTIC spider dangles from my rosebush adding another level of EEK! to this SPOOK-TACULAR box!!!

On the sides, I've added some tags and folding elements to give plenty of opportunity for pictures and journaling. I've done some "messy" stitching to create the rustic look I was going for.

Hi, Everyone!!! I have another fun card for you today :) This project was a collaborative effort!

One of my favorite things to do is color (YES! Grown-ups can color, too!). I especially like to spend time coloring with my baby girl, Paige. Recently, after a coloring session with Paige, I was presented with a LOVELY, colored image..."Mama, this is for YOU!". I love her work SO MUCH, that I'm always trying to find way's to use her beautiful artwork in my projects---here's what I've come up with...

This card sketch came from the Priscillastyles Midnight Madness #74 sketch challenge :) I love playing along with their weekly challenges! I was a bit under the weather, so I missed the deadline, but I love the resulting card!!!

The all black, white and silver palette with just a small pop of color makes me happy :)

I've added a layer of Glossy Accents over her coloring to protect it from wear and tear. It also creates a faux glass effect...super shiny and definately abstract!!!

I chose the word LIVE because it reminds me that things don't have to be perfect in the traditional sense to be beautiful. Life's too short to color inside the lines!!!

Masquerade Mask

Hi, Everyone!!! Have you ever played dress up as a little girl?

I remember having such fun wearing my mother's shoes, sporting ALL of her jewelery and having the best tea party with my favorite dollies. Who says, as grown-ups we have to stop??? Here's a peek at another one of my favorite swaps...

I created this mask for a fellow artisan in my Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group. Sonia (Check out her AMAZING blog HERE!) requested a mask in pale tones of pink, sage, aqua or ecru. I just have to say, I CANNOT resist a pink and green color combination! So, sage and pale pink it is---with a bit of ecru and pearl added in for measure.

I just love these mini plumes in ecru! Along with the green and brown feathers, they add a bit of queenly flair to the mask.

These vintage glass beads came from a beautiful necklace that was broken. I restrung just enough of these pretty, pink gems to create a bracelet---so I had a few to spare. They add a lovely, irridescent sparkle to the fleurs.

Here's the gorgeous mask she created for me...

I had such fun with this swap!!! Now I'm off to wear my mask while I mop my floors ;)

Hello!!! Today I thought I'd share another of my card creations with you :)

I just LOVE this stamp from The Greeting Farm! It reminds me of my daughter, Paige, at two.

You see, Paige's daddy bought her a stuffed bunny on her "birth" day. This bunny had a recorded message of her daddy saying, "Hey, Paige...It's daddy...I love you!". This bunny NEVER left Paige's reach (and STILL proudly sports a place of honor on her bed every night)!!!

When I saw this stamp, I just HAD to HAVE it :)

I found a sketch over at Priscillastyles Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #73 that I thought would be perfect for this image. I think this card ABSOLUTELY captures the feeling of "BLISS" my daughter has when she hugs her favorite bunny friend :)

Onions have layers, ogres have layers...I think of that line in Shrek everytime I see these fun little cards I created for a swap with a few of my craftiest gal pals :)

I wanted to create my cards without breaking into any new product, so I decide to rifle through my scrap paper bin. I knew just what I was going to create when I came across my stash of Graphic 45 scraps!!! Here's what I came up with...

I layered my scraps and a printed sentiment and did some machine sewing around the edges. Two rotations gave me the messy stitching I was going for. I have to say, I LOVE sewing paper!!! Not much work for such a big effect---and I'm all about "give a little, get a lot"! I found that cute butterfly in the Michael's $1 bin :)

For my second card, I used the same technique with shimmery and glossy cardstock. I added a printed image and a few Glimmer Misted mini roses. I left this card without a sentiment so I can personalize it later.

I will definately be using this layered look again. Talk about using your scraps to their fullest potential! Until next time, my crafty friends!!!

Hello All!!!

Well...it's official. I've been bitten by the Copic bug! I buttered my Honey up and he finally consented to letting me buy a small assortment of these wonderfully addictive and completely AWESOME markers :)

I've spent the last few weeks gathering my supplies and can now proudly say, I've colored my first image!!! Now, what to do with her...

Why, Priscillastyles Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge #72, of course!!! It's also my first time playing along with the Midnight Madness crew (quite the week of firsts, eh?).

Here's my take on this weeks sketch...

I just LOVE how this card turned out! It's my take on a fairy godmother---wearing combat boots, a tutu and tiara and rockin' some super-cool, totally blinged-out wings!!!

Faux Embossing Technique (LOVE IT!!!)

Here's a little tutorial on how to create a faux embossed look. This is such a versatile technique! From colorful and distressed (like my RockS Altered Journal!), to vintage "pressed tin", to whatever you can think up!

Dressform Double-Slider Card

Here's a little card I created using some vintage sewing pattern, a lovely dressform die-cut, and a plastic grocery bag. Yes, I did say a plastic grocery bag!

To create this standard, double-slider card from an 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper...

Cut your card base to 5 1/2 x 11 inches.
Score at 3 1/2, 7 1/8 and 10 5/5.
You will also need 2 pieces of cardstock measuring 3 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches.

To create this card from a 12 x 12 inch paper...

Cut your cardbase to 5 1/2 x 12 inches.
Score at 3 3/4, 7 5/8, and 11 3/8.
You will also need 2 pieces of cardstock measuring 3 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches.

Both of these cards will fit a standard envelope.

Eggs Not Included...

Hello my fellow Blog Stalkers! Long time, no see, heh??? Well, I'm planning a triumphant return from the rabbit hole that I fell into over the summer, so...stay tuned (project foreshadowing was definately intended!!!)!

This summer has been a very busy and absolutely insane! I threw myself into work, family and TONS of swapping :) Here's a little sneaky-peaky into one of my fave's!

I created this little egg carton for a swap with a few of my favorite crafty gal pals. I was charged with creating a carton for Kasey (She's a Newby Blogger, so go check her out!). I tried to include as many of her favorite things into the design as I could. Here's what I came up with...

And then I filled it with lots of fun goodies. Each of the flowers hide another secret surprise.

Try as I might, I just couldn't fit some of the items into the little "egg cubbies", so I added a corsette pocket. I love how it turned out!!! Although, I have to admit, I feel a bit voyeuristic peeking down into the top of a corsette, lol!

Here's a few pics of my BEAUTIFUL carton from Dara. It has a lovely homespun feel with just a bit of Paris chic!

Marie a la Paysanne Fabric Cuff

Here's a fabric cuff I created for a swap with my Marie Antoinette Mail Art Group.

(A special ThaNKs!!! to my mom for modeling the cuff for this pic!)

The only thing that makes me happier than beautiful fabric, is WEARING beautiful fabric!

This cuff was such a joy to make! I've used tea dyed fabric for the backing and the fabric flowers...the charm holds a piece of vintage music sheet...the edges are gently frayed...It makes me happy!

I hope Ira loves it as much as I do :)

Check out my latest project! I just love it (***stares off into space with dreamy eyes***)...

I used vintage lace from an old wedding gown that I acquired, great French Postcard (Carte Postale!) images and added some of my custom blooms.

I can't wait to start using it...that is, IF I can make myself cover it up with mere pictures and notes!!!

"P" is for Paige

My baby girl, Paige, is especially excited about this project! I created this letter "P" for her room...

When I began planning this project, I knew I wanted a piece she would appreciate for a long time. Something she wouldn't want to pack away with her stuffed animals as she grew up. That is, IF I decide to let her grow up ;)

I began by applying vintage Romeo and Juliet pages...

Some Vintage Photo ink and a paint-stamped harlequin pattern (in pink, of course!)...

This ruched fabric inspires me to make something wearable, lol! Maybe a wrist cuff or a bib necklace??? Hmmm...Next time!!!

Here's a "little" peek into my "not-so-little" addiction. These are just the first in a long line of more lovely blossoms to come! I just can't help myself...

Of all the fabrics I've tried this technique on, this one is my favorite! This red fabric is so soft, it actually feels like rose petals.

I know just what to do with this one!!! I have another unfinished project just screaming for a little fabric-flower love.

Minimalist Me...

I've come to realize that I am a true minimalist. Now, don't get me wrong, I definately appreciate the beauty of a wonderfully layed piece of art! I just can't seem to venture into this arena myself.

Let me share an example...

I've decided to create a Marie Antoinette inspired hat box. I wanted this box to be Over-The-Top. Layered. Lovely. Truly Inspiring! I started by applying a basecoat of white paint. I then applyed a lovely crackle finish in a light blue...

Aren't the crackles lovely???

So, there is my box. Naked, except for a few little white crackles in light blue paint. And I love them!!!

I WILL bring my vision to fruition! Maybe just a few more days with my crackles...

New Year, New Projects to tackle...or at least there will be---as soon as I FINISH some old ones!

Here's the first in a line of projects that I officially declare finished!!! Now it's a thing of beauty---not some shameful reminder of my inability to finish things, lol!

This cute little carrier is actually a repurposed drink holder. Perfect for carrying some handmade ornaments that my children made for their Nonni and Fa's tree.

I just LOVE this custom fabric flower! I'm actually kind of addicted to fabric lately...Look for more posts on fabric tinkerings coming soon.

This chipboard butterfly is adorable! I edged it in German Glass Glitter and the brad is reminiscent of a vintage broach.

My friend, Holly, taught this class at a cute little craft store in Payson, AZ...I have to say, it probably was the BEST class I've ever been to!!!

I LOVE to learn new things, but most classes are very cut and paste - "Here's your supplies...glue it down, please." When you walk away, you have the same, or nearly the same, product that everyone else in that class now possesses.

Not this time!!! We got to choose our papers (gotta love Graphic 45!), embellishments and pretty much just run with it :) I just LOVE my little Wall Organizer!

Another Birthday LO!!! I just may make my deadline yet...

I love this LO! It totally sums up my daughter, Paige, as a three year old. All girl. All pink. In love with Dinos.

In the six months before her third birthday, Paige was IN LOVE with The Land Before Time movies...so when I found a dino cake, I was in HEAVEN (even though hubby still claims credit, lol)!!! Just add a bright pink border and we were in business ;)

She still plays with the little T-Rex dino from the top of that cake...

A Sharing Kinda Mood...

I saw this cute little "share" on a couple of the GGS gal's blogs (check the GGS blogroll for some great blog hopping!!!), and thought I'd give it a try! I'm in a sharing kinda mood today ;)

Outside my window…rooftops, street lamps and tree branches.

I am thinking…my scraproom is calling me! I hope my kiddos sleep in today...

I am thankful for…my lovely family and my super-scrappy friends!

From the kitchen…COFFEE!!! I so need coffee this morning.

I am wearing…you really don't wanna know! Super neon, lime green tee I'm sure was produced in the 80's and some yoga pants. I figure putting the exercise clothes on may trick my brain into actually exercising...MaYBe?!?!

I am creating…THREE different mini albums, as well as about 6 different birthday layouts. One of the mini's is almost done...just some fine tuning.

I am going…absolutely nowhere today!!! Maybe a short trip to Crazytown when my boys wake up...

I am reading…Harry Potter with my kiddos. I like them to read the book before they see the movie.

I am hoping…for a restful day. I have to work tonight...GRRR!

I am hearing…a/c white noise. It's kinda soothing.

Around the house…racing cats! They have a "TAG! YOU'RE IT!" race every morning. Kinda sounds like a mini heard of elephants running through, lol!

One of my favorite things…just one?!?! My GGS Mini Album Kit! I got it yesterday...stay tuned for a post on that ;)

A few plans for the rest of the week…scrapping, playdates (for me and my four year old baby girl!!!), and FiREwoRkS!!!

Glossy Accents Image Transfer

For the longest time, I've been looking for Star Wars stickers great enough to put on a birthday LO for my son...with no luck!!! Everything was either too small or wasn't worth the cost to ship.

So I made my own!!! Kinda...

This was created using Glossy Accents, acetate and an image printed with toner ink. I think it looks pretty neat! I'm off to spruce up a Star Wars LO!!!

Ok, so this isn't exactly a Birthday LO, but I couldn't just leave these cute pics in a drawer... After having two almost-teenage boys, I really appreciate being able to do super girly layouts!!! SO SWEET!!!

Oh, and by the way, this is the first time I've ever, Ever, EVER used my own handwriting on a page...EEK!!!

I love making the Lollipop Flowers I used on this page. They're so pretty (even better in person!!!). And the texture on the chipboard almost looks like chocolate (check out Marion's tutorial @ A Piece Of Craft.com ---> She's in my Fave's List!!!). Suddenly I'm craving a candy bar...LOL!

My mom and I made this monstrous castle cake for my girl on her 4th birthday (TWO cake mixes!!!). When we told her to "make a wish", she closed her eyes and said a little prayer! Do I really have to let her grow up?!?!

Scrap Challenge and {A Pirates LIFE FOR ME}

SOOOOO...My hubby challenged me to complete ALL of my children's birthday pages in their scrapbooks...by the end of summer...

If I do happen to complete their albums, I get to have a little shopping spree!!! Can I do it??? Certainly. Will I wait until the last minute??? Most likely, lol!

The only catch is that their "albums" include their scrapbooks AND their baby books...EEK! Now I have to dig out all those little notes I jotted down and actually WRITE them in their books.

Journaling...I actually have to journal...

On that note, I finished one! Check it out!!!

My favorite thing about this LO is...BLING!!! I actually got to put bling on my SON'S pages!!!

Wedding Mini Album

SORRY for the horrible picture quality :( Page Protectors = No Flash (or light of any kind, really!). I was gonna try a video, but...I decided to spare you the motion sickness (no tripod!).

This mini album is in honor of my parents wedding day. I've been promising my mom a scrapbook and I just wanted to practice first :) Yes, I'm a chicken, lol!!!

I used lots of embossing, metallic paint, sanding/chalking of the photos...I also left a TON of open space for journaling (my mom agreed to journal in it for me, YAY!!!)...OPEN SPACE...BAD...

I figure if I just let her do her journaling, than I can fill any holes later with some new and awesome, cool technique yet to be discovered! RIGHT?!?!?

"Friend" Card Box

I made this little card box for a friend of mine (a bit of "brown-nosing" was in order, lol!). A little embossing, a little ribbon and there you go!!! It holds six standard sized cards and I LOVE IT!!!

I think this would also be super cute holding some home made paper :) I need some way to use up all those scraps!!!

Stenciled Card Tutorial

For this card, you'll need...

3 colors of cardstock, a stencil, a stipple brush, 2 (or more) colors of paint, ink, thread and beads

Start by positioning and taping the cardstock (sized 5in x 3in) to the back of the stencil. Post-it notes work great! They have just the right amount of adhesive to hold the paper in place without ripping it when you remove them.
NOTE: For my card I used light blue cardstock, but for the purposes of this tutorial, I just used white.

Make sure to mask off (more Post-it’s!!!) the front of your paper to avoid getting paint in the wrong place. The only paper visible should be what you see through the stencil.

Stipple the paint (I used acrylic black) onto your paper. Make sure you use just a little paint on the brush at a time to prevent it running under the stencil. You can always add more, but can’t take it back off again!!!
NOTE: Stipple = up and down bouncing motion of the brush

Remove the stencil and set your image aside to dry. Keep your Post-its to reuse with the second color. Wash your stencil and brush.

When your image is dry to the touch, reposition the stencil and Post-its. You want them in the exact positions they were before.

Stipple on your second color (I used acrylic, metallic silver). I only put highlights of color around the wings, but you can apply as light or dark a coat as you wish.

Remove the stencil and set your image aside to dry.
NOTE: You can continue with these steps with as many colors as you want. MAKE A RAINBOW!!!

When your image is dry to the touch, tear all 4 edges. If you happen to tear into your image, GREAT!!! It just adds to the vintage feel of your finished card.

Distress away!!! My favorite part…

Tear your image into thirds. If you are doing a larger image, you can always tear more sections…or even in different directions…HMMM…that gives me an idea, lol!

More inking!!!

Adhere the sections to your cardstock (sized 5in x 3 1/2in, I used white). To finish, FIRST add beading or any other embellishments you choose, and THEN adhere the image your card base (sized 4in x 11 in folded in half, I used black). This prevents your sewing from being visible in your finished card.

I love, Love, LOVE these cards!!! They’re simple, but very pretty.

Hidden Box

Just an ordinary stack of envelopes, right?!?!?

WRONG!!! A cute little hidden box :)

You can use larger envelopes for a larger box, but these were the envelopes I had on hand...

I added cute little paper clips to hold pictures. You could slide a little note into the envelope, or just clip a little note with the paperclip, instead of just photos.

And yes, those are my babies!!! All three at about 6-8 months old...sigh!!!
